Thanks for your patience while I was gone <3 Let’s kick off the new week with my “Health & Beauty" feature on the new Carol’s Daughter site, Transitioning Movement. Today we’re discussing the fundamentals of growing healthy natural hair.
hey fran hey! i was wondering, is it bad to eat too many almonds? i bought a bag of organic almonds last week from whole foods to snack on, but when i start, its like a bag of chips i dont know when to stop.
Too much of anything is bad…even water! Almonds are super healthy but they also have a high fat content (nut oil) so eating an entire bag, on a regular basis, may cause you to gain some unnecessary weight. Try eating a handful or a cup, at most.
I love that picture of you on your last day for vacation. Do tell your secret on how to get and maintain that shape. It's amazing and you're beautiful!!
Thank you! There’s no secret! It’s what I write about every day! Cutting out junk and processed foods. I only drink water, fresh fruit or veggie juices and herbal teas. I only eat clean foods that aren’t pre-packaged, greasy or fried. Just clean eating/drinking and a physically active life. You don’t have to be a vegan/vegetarian or a gym rat. Just stay active on a daily basis and eat more natural foods!
Hey Fran, Hey! I need help with my edges. Not only are they super thin, they're also dry and brittle. I need something to soften them up and to help them grow back. What do you suggest? Thanks in advance!
Jamaican Black Castor Oil will help stimulate the hair follicles. Give yourself a weekly massage with it for a few minutes. It’s def not overnight but you’ll notice a difference within a few months. Also, take note of why they’re dry, brittle and thin! You have to make sure you’re not stressing them with styling methods and are moisturizing regularly.
Hi fran. I wish I had time for a tumblr so I didn't have to be anonymous, but I do have tine to watch your awesome youtube vids :). But I have a question. My face has a lot of blemishes and every now and then I break out. I use the nadinola line for oily skin but so far I haven't seen any changes. I was wondering how do you keep your face so clear? What is your regimen for that? Thanks - Tina
Hi Fran... I'm just wondering if you've heard of the "Cantu Shea Butter" products (especially the leave-in). Would you know if they're bad for hair? Thankssssssssss
Girl, that stuff makes your hair “look” amazing but my hair felt like straw after a few weeks. When I read the back (not sure why I didn’t in the first place), I realized why! Loaded with chemicals. Products priced for super cheap are usually super cheap for a reason.
it’s something i tried briefly in the past, but didn’t work out too well (eh.). but thanks to heyfranhey i’ve decided to give it another go with in love with bodycare’s version. let’s hope i can make it through the detox period!
Hey awesome Fran! I've always used hair mousse by Garnier for my hair, I've tried a whole other bunch of stuff, but i always end up going back to using the mousse cause it just makes my hair look at its best. I know its damaging my hair, so my question is, what product can I use, that has the same effect as mousse? I thought about a natural gel, but i cant seem to find any. Im really in doubt, please save my hair fran!!!.... Loads of love to you!
Hey :) If you like a gel-like feel, I would suggest the Kinky Curly line sold at Target. The Curling Custard if you like a tight hold and the Knot Today if you’d prefer a light-medium hold. Hope that helps!
heyfranhey! i absolutely looove your youtube channel and blog, i'm sooo happy to have found them lol. i was wondering when the next time you will post another video will be! i'm not trying to rush you i just have been watching your past videos so often! i just can't learn enough (3 months in being natural!) and can't wait to see what all else you have in store for us!! i also love reading your articles on other websites. you're fantastic! xx love, Theresa :')
Thank you for the sweetness <3 <3 I’m glad you’ve found everything helpful. I just posted one on Saturday. I’ll try to post one in about a week!
Hey Fran! I used your styling method last night and it turned out so soft and defined. I've been looking for a good styling regimen for 3 years. Thanks for sharing!! I think this will work. Love the Kinky Kurly and Aloe Vera Juice combo. The ph balance really makes my curls POP! Looking forward to seeing your protective styles. :-) PS. How long have you been natural/growing out your hair?
I’m happy to hear that! Yeah, the aloe neutralizes your hair and closes the cuticle so the shine and minimized frizz = amazeballs. I’ve technically been natural all of my life cause i’ve never had chemicals in it. But I was frying my hair and using cheap and awful products (lots of gels loaded with alcohol…my edges were a mess!). Actually, I did have chemicals cause I was coloring it every few years, too. Then 4 years ago I decided to cut heat and only use natural products. The results were so amazing, I haven’t looked back since!
Have you guys seen the awesome brand, Bon Bon Vie? Super cute summer tees and handmade jewelry! The pieces above are just a few of my personal favs. You can see the rest of the collection here: http://www.wearbonbonvie.com/
One lucky reader will win one of the pieces above! The even…
Ive been trying to style my hair but nothing seems to hold it when i do braidouts and twist outs, do you know of a good product?
Are you doing them while your hair is wet? That definitely helps keep them tight and neat! My fav products for twists are the Bee Mine Curly Butter, the Curl Milk by Shea Moisture, the Unyevu Butter by Belle Butters or the Moisture Butter by Camille Rose. Hope that helps.
When my hair is wet, it kinda looks like your hair when wet. I think it has great curls and it isn't poofy or have tons of volume, but has that wave. Yet as it dries, it grows tons. I was wondering if there is some way to stop it from increasing in volume and lock in that style when its wet. i tried scrunching mousse, it captures the curls but doesnt control the volume. And makes my hair hard like straw. My hair seems to go from hair type 3B when wet to hair type 4A when fully dry.
Try using a product with a little more hold, like the Kinky Curly Curling Custard sold at Target! Make sure you finger-rake it into your freshly washed, wet hair (the same method I used in my video) to really get that tight definition and hold.
I'm not on tumblr and I never 'ask' things but I just wanted to say THANK YOU -SO MUCH-. Seriously. As stupid as it sounds, loving my hair more means loving myself more, and I almost gave up on my hair until I saw your videos. I'm no longer interested in having my hair as long or pretty as some people, I'm just trying to make the best out of MY hair and I'm loving it. So thank you Fran, it means alot! - Amani
You guys can be so sweet! I sincerely appreciate the kindness <3 It makes my day to hear that you’re feeling good! It’s always a lot deeper than hair.
It’s gonna be a slow week for the blog. My birthday is on Tuesday (whoop whoop!) and i’m out of the country for it. I’m gonna keep up with posts here and there, but I def wanna try to take a small technological break and focus on relaxing and having some fun! So be patient with me :p (I’ll try to post pictures!)
Things will be right back to normal by next week Mon!
P.S. Thank you so much for keeping my new YouTube vid going! Glad you guys have found it helpful!
