Whats poppin' Fran? I did yarn braids for the first time the other day (so in love with the finished look!) and i have no idea how to take care of my hair while its in braids! Do you have any tips or advice on how to keep my hair moisturized?
Hey! I always refer people to this Coco & Creme article on hair care with extensions. I think they did a great job covering all bases.
Hey, fran.. I love your site. I decided to venture into the world of clean eating but I have a problem. I absolutely cannot eat fruit besides pomegranates and raisins. Is there anyway for me to maintain a healthy diet without eating fruit?
Hey! Thank you :) Fruits have so many important vitamins and nutrients your body needs! That you wouldn’t be getting from vegetables! Would it still be hard for you in the form of a smoothie? Or maybe chopped up and covered in Greek Yogurt?
Hi Fran, I read your response to curing your eczema. I was wondering how did you stay motivated and make that five-month commitment? Were you seeing results all along? If not what inspired you to keep going? I need to stick to a regime but find it hard when you are not seeing results. Thank you
Hey! It’s because I didn’t buy the Raw Shea Butter Wash (Shea Moisture) with the intent of curing my eczema. I just needed some relief and knew those ingredients would at least do that much! And by the end of the first month, my back began healing (which was a pleasant surprise!) so I kept it up. It’s been 2 years since i’ve had a flare up and I still use it every day.
Hey Fran! Great blog :) Quick question: Do you use apple cider vinegar as a toner? And if so, do you use it before or after your oil cleanse? I love using ACV on my face but I don't want it to mess up the effects of the OCM ... thank you!!
Hey! Thank you :) Toner doesn’t work for my skin type! I’ve tried for years. If the ACV works for you, def stick with it! It’s all natural and an anti-fungal/bacterial so it won’t interfere with the Oil Cleansing Method at all!
HFH! I wanted to know if using Coconut milk to make fruit smoothies can contribute to weight gain. I use the So Delicious brand and mix it in with various frozen fruits. I have noticed a stall in my weight loss and I work out at least 4 times a week sometimes 2x a day.
Hey! Is that brand all natural? No added sweeteners? Make sure to check! I wouldn’t blame the stall on the coconut milk, especially since you’re super active. It is definitely fatty but it’s not the kind that just sits and stores in your body. Your organs actually absorb it and use it for fuel and energy. A good fat! There are people who actually use it for weight loss since it gives that extra energy boost needed for working out. Everyone’s body is different, of course! So maybe give it a break for a few weeks and see if you notice any changes. Also, are you switching up your workout routines? Increase the reps or try different workouts. The body plateaus when it’s no longer being challenged!
Hey Fran Hey! Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics and Naked Cosmetics are both pretty good natural lines. I love OC's lip tar, they are extremely pigmented and naked cosmetics has these mineral powders that can be used as lipgloss or eye shadows or even blush.
A lot of you inbox me asking about all natural and organic makeup lines. It’s not a strength of mine because as you can tell by my pictures and vids…makeup is non-existent in my beauty routine! However, that doesn’t mean I can’t do my research and pass on proper info for my organic yet glam beauties <3
Have you guys heard of The Lip Bar? It’s a lipstick line for women of color that launched earlier this year. Andrea Lewis of Those Girls Are Wild whipped one of these way cute tubes out of her bag the other day and said, “Omg, Fran! These are all natural and handmade! You should tell your readers about it!”…so here we are! First let me praise the brand for being chemical-free! The site is also super dope because they have a skin tone scale so you can see how the different colors will look on you. And the creator, Melissa Butler, handcrafts each tube herself so it’s made with hella love! Each lipstick is valued at $20. Not for the color shy…clearly!
Hey Fran! Found about your great site from my cousin and its truly fabulous :) I was just going through your juice pictures and have been looking for a good juicer myself... Which kind do you have? Does it work well or is there another one you would recommend? Thanks!! :)
Thank you :) The “store” tab on my blog lists all of my favorite things, from healthy beauty products to clean eating books to appliances! This Breville is the one I use for my green juices. And this Cuisinart is the blender I use for my green smoothies.
Hola Fran! I hope all is well. Sorry to bombard you but I have three questions: how often can/should you wash your hair with betonite clay? Do you know of any good all natural cleanses and do you know of any good colorists for natural hair in NYC?
Hey! All is well :) How often one should cleanse with clay is going to be different for every head of hair! I would suggest starting out with once every 2 weeks and taking it from there. Let your hair show you if it’s a good schedule. The best all natural cleanse would have to be the awesome and fully organic Terressentials Pure Earth Hair Wash. A good and affordable colorist for natural hair in NYC is named illy! Email her at illy@illyL.com. She did my mom’s big chop a few weeks ago. She’s an artist with natural cuts and color! You’re going to love her. Tell her I sent you! <3
hey fran! on one of you post you said that oil of oregano was a good spot treatment for acne. I didn't realize that i had to dilute it and tried it just the way it was and it felt like my skin was going to burn off!! I have been looking up ways to dilute oil of oregano but idk which way would be best. what would you suggest?
The smell alone should’ve warned you! lol. Try diluting it with a little bit of Jojoba oil!
Hey Fran! Love your YT videos and your blog. Quick question, where do you get your nails done? They always look so fab. I've been itching to get mine done for a while but I don't want to use acrylic or nail polishes with tons of chemicals
Hey! I do them myself :) And check out Go Natural for healthier polishes, base/top coats and nail polish remover.
Hey Fran! Love your blog! Question about Braggs ACV. I know many use it for a more natural toner but what about consuming it? I spotted a book on it at Whole Foods the other day, and my Granny drinks it with water daily (maybe 1 tsp or so in 8 oz a couple times a day). Thoughts?
Your Granny knows!!!! I do the same thing, every morning and night. 2 tablespoons in a tall glass of cold water. It keeps my internal pH balanced and my organs clean and detoxified. Not the best tasting drink but the immediate health and energy you’ll feel will fuel you to continue doing it.
Check out my newest “Health & Beauty” post on the Carol’s Daughter site, TransitioningMovement.com! I give you a step by step breakdown of how I pull off the Banding Method for stretching my curls. Hope it helps <3
P.S. I just noticed my Oil Cleansing Method is also the featured video of the day! Make sure to check that out if you haven’t already!
Does it matter if the oils are from the beauty supply stores rather than whole food stores?
It’s not about where it’s sold but a lot of beauty supply stores carry oil mixtures as opposed to natural oils. If you can find 100% pure bottles of the oils mentioned, then you’re good to go, regardless of where it’s from!
