Q:Hey Fran! I was recently told by the doctors that I have a Vitamin D deficiency and that there are no alternatives but a Vit. D pill. I know that can't be true! Do you know of an alternative natural route I can take to help?
Hey :) Doctors love the “there are no alternatives” fear campaign. Vitamin D is a tough one, though! Not very many food sources contain it. And if they do, it’s a small amount. Do you spend time outdoors at all? Exposure to fresh air and sun will help your body absorb Vitamin D, naturally. You can find small amounts in shiitake mushrooms, egg yolk and several fish like salmon, herring and mackerel. Tuna, too! Hope that helps <3

It also depends on where you live… certain (higher) latitudes simply do not get enough uvb light in the winter to effectively make the active form of vitamin d. This anon may need to try supplements in the winter and ease off in the summer.
