Nail polish can also be one of the most toxic beauty products and conventional versions contain a host of harmful chemicals. These chemicals are especially harmful to children and pregnant women.
Problems with Nail Polish:
Nail polishes often include:
- Toulene- A chemical known to cause reproductive harm and dizziness. It is also found in gasoline and the CDC warns that it can cause central nervous system problems.
- Formaldehyde- This known carcinogen is found in many nail polishes. It is also used to preserve dead things and when used in lab preparations, there are strict warnings to avoid inhalation or skin contact.
- Dibutyl phthalate (DBP) -This chemical is banned in Europe and is known to cause reproductive problems, especially in boys. The Environmental working group classifies this chemical as the highest danger level and warns that it can cause organ problems and endocrine disruption.
- Assorted other chemicals.
Nail polish removers are equally problematic and the fumes are especially harmful.
Are there safe options?

First time trying out the Thayer’s Witch Hazel and I gotta tell ya, it’s refreshing. Wish I could have gotten the Cucumber one but the Vitamin Shoppe only had this one for 9 bucks.
Thanks to Hey Fran Hey I finally found a toner and I hope it works :)
That’s sincerely the best toner/astringent. Ever. And you guys know I only cosign products I genuinely use and love. That will truly heal your ailments! I’ll do an updated video on how I use it, next month!
I’m glad you took your chance with it <3
Q:do you have any recommendations for an all natural sunscreen?
I’ve been using this all-natural sunblock by IxoraBB. It’s my new fav because it has an SPF of 30, moisturizes your skin (cause it’s loaded with awesome natural butters/oils) and doesn’t give you that ashy look! Perfect for traveling or for everyday use. Hope that helps <3
I bought the greece deodorant from In love With Body Care. They also put in a sample of their lemon meringue lotion (light scent but it smells oh so good ) and a key lime pie lip balm as a little gift for my first time order. One of the reasons why I love buying from indie companies :) lets see how this deodorant works. HeyFranHey recommended it so you already know I had to buy it !
You’re gonna love! It’s the absolute best and most reliable (especially if you’re physically active!) all-natural deodorant in the market. Keep us posted! :)
FINALLY - Natural, Cruelty Free Deodorant That Works!
I searched for some time to find all natural, cruelty free deodorant that actually did it’s job. I must admit that I always required the use of clinical strength deodorant, so this was no easy task. I tried several brands - Tom’s of Maine, Nature’s Gate, Geo Deo, etc… None of them worked for me. I was beginning to think I’d have to give up, but I was determined to find something, even if I had to re-apply it several times throughout the day. I just couldn’t bring myself to purchase a product that was tested on animals, or give my money to a company that supported animal testing.
It wasn’t until I tried JĀSÖN brand that I found one that did the trick. This stuff smells great, and actually lasts! Highly recommended!
I use their Sunblock. Such an awesome brand! You can find it at Whole Foods and Vitamin Shoppe. And, of course, my absolute favorite all-natural deodorant (that hella hella works!) is the Greece Formula.
Hey Fran! This is amazing! My skin is extremely soft and the process was barely painful. I purchased from Target (of course) for $12. I first learned of Shea Moisture browsing through your site, immediately went and bought some things, and I’ve been hooked ever since from hair products to skin care. I honestly can’t see myself using any other products. Thank You!

Organic Winter Skin Care: Drugstore Edition
I know a few of you don’t have the time/space/money, aren’t into DIY beauty projects or simply aren’t fans of handling oils and raw butters. With this in mind, I wanted to make sure to include dope and reliable store-bought options for healthy winter skin care.
This Dr. Bronner’s Peppermint Body Wash is incredible. Have you tried it? The fresh ingredients cleanse your skin while also leaving it soft and moisturized. Also organic and incredibly healing for those suffering from severe dryness, eczema, bacne, discoloration, etc. You can grab a 32 oz bottle for $10 at CVS, Target, Duane Reade, Trader Joe’s & Whole Foods.
Ingredients: (Certified Organic) - Water, organic coconut oil, organic olive oil, lavandin extract, organic hemp oil, organic jojoba oil, organic peppermint oil, vitamin e, citric acid (natural preservative).
The coolest part? You can also use it to wash your face, hair, laundry, dishes and even to brush your teeth. That’s how natural, organic and versatile this stuff is. The company is Fair trade which means fair prices are paid to producers in developing countries. What more could you ask for in a brand? Love love love!
The Lavender scent is my personal fav <3
Now that your skin is clean, soft and ready to be replenished with moisture…
Both of these are the absolute truth when it comes to lotion! The Shea Moisture Argan Oil & Raw Shea Butter and the Raw Shea Butter Lotion. Both are $9.99 each and can be purchased at Target, CVS and Duane Reade.
My personal fav is the Raw Shea Butter one <3
Ingredients: (Certified Organic) - Shea butter, deionized water, palm kernel, vegetable wax, castor oil, mango butter, cocoa butter, vegetable glycerin, jojoba oil, soy milk, vitamin e, frankincense & myrrh, comfrey root extract, honeysuckle flower extract.
I consider this to be the perfect lotion because, although it’s loaded with butters and oils, you never feel greasy. It actually penetrates really really well and doesn’t sit on top of your skin. And you still end up with the same soft, dewy glow butters/oils leave behind. Best of both worlds. Love this stuff! Always apply moisture on damp skin for best results.
The combination of the Dr. Bronner’s Peppermint (or Lavender) Body Wash (always use exfoliating gloves or a shower puff to help your skin repair itself faster) and the Shea Moisture Raw Shea Butter Lotion = Winter Skin Care Gold! All at your local drugstores, healthy and for $20 total :)
Let me know if you try it! Or if any of you use them already??
Q:Hey Fran Hey! I love your blog so much, you're awesome! Do you know of any good paraben free deodorants? Thanks, Tasha :-)
Hey! Thank you :) This In Love With Body Care brand sells deodorants that really really work well and are chemical free. I love the unscented and the Greece Formula! Hope that helps <3
