Q:Hey Fran! Do you usually just drink a green juice/smoothie in the morning? or do you pair healthy juices with your meals during the rest of the day?

Anonymous

Hey :) My breakfast is usually a green smoothie (made in a blender)! My fav is 2 leaves of kale and a handful of spinach with fresh fruit like mango and blueberries or a pear with a banana! Or papaya and dates (my new fav). Then I add ground chia seeds and flax seeds (1 tablespoon of each) and almond milk. Tons of awesome energy and a cute glow for the rest of the day! My green juice (which is extracted in a juicer and usually all greens: romaine, celery, parsley kale, spinach and an apple, lemon and ginger to break up the taste and to add health boosts) comes in somewhere later in the day, either in between lunch and dinner or with my dinner! I don’t buy juice. I always make it myself. The only “juice” I buy is coconut water (Harmless Harvest is my fav brand)! Hope that helps <3

Q:Hey Fran, i'm curious to know what you think about juice detox and tea detox?

Anonymous

Hey :) I’m actually not a fan of the “detox” “cleanse” craze. People abuse them. If you’re going to cleanse your body for a few days only to go back and eat what you were already eating, what’s the point? It’s really harsh on the body when you’re doing it without the proper understanding of how and why it works. If you’re doing it because you’re really sick (meaning chronic illness) and need to re-adjust your body, i’m totally for it. I healed my Kidney that way. There were things that needed to be removed. Or doing it because you’re going to transition into a new lifestyle, like Vegetarian or Vegan, i’m all for it! I did the same! Otherwise, i’m against the pointless abuse for weight loss purposes. It’s  a lot more harmful, when used for vanity, than people realize. Just incorporate healthy eating, including the juices and teas, into your life on a daily basis! No need to starve yourself (ever) of necessary nutrients. Just my opinion.

Q:HFH! I was told that frozen fruit/vegetables are just as nutritious as fresh fruits/vegetables (as per the FDA). I'm a bit confused because you said when you freeze fruits and vegetables, they lose nutritional value. Can you confirm if one is better than the other?

Anonymous

Hey :) Frozen fruit are frozen at their peak, so they’re definitely as nutritious as fresh fruit. You may have misunderstood my response! I was referring to making green smoothies/juices and trying to freeze them so they can last throughout the week. The drinks lose nutritional value if refrigerated and are best consumed immediately after making them!

Q:Hey what are your thoughts on liquid chlorophyll?

Anonymous

Amazing for me to catch this question because I’ve been meaning to do a post on this new drink i’m obsessed with, Gorilla Life, that is chlorophyll based. Unfortunately, it’s only available in California. For those of you in Cali (I order mine online), here are the retail locations. You need this drink in your life! I only drink water, tea and green smoothies/juices but i’ve added this drink to my rotation, as well. They added agave to the cholorophyll so it’s the perfect healthy drink with a little bit of sweetness when I get a craving.

Now, liquid chlorophyll, on its own, is even more amazing. It helps keep your blood clean and healthy, resulting in way more energy, prevents the growth of any foreign bacteria in your body (strengthens your immune system), clears out your digestive tract, fresher breath, etc. It’s the fountain of youth. A must! What’s the best way to incorporate it? You can buy a bottle and add 2 tablespoons to your drinking water. Add it to your green smoothies and juices. Or you can drink it on its own! Where can it be purchased? Any health food market, Whole Foods, Trader Joe’s. Hope that helps!

Q:Hey Fran! *does the Dougie*LOVE LOVE LOVE what you do :) My husband and I are looking to start juicing soon - we will be purchasing the one that is listed as your fav! Breville Juicier, here we come!! I have a few questions. Is it ok to replace meals with juicing? If so, how many ounces should we consume? My plan is to find go-to juice recipes for breakfast, lunch, and dinner w/ healthy snack inbetween. Is this ideal/ok? I'm a new mom so I'm looking for convenience. Again, I adore you/what you do

Hey! :) That’s so awesome <3 I definitely wouldn’t recommend just drinking green juices instead of meals! Think about what typically goes into one glass of juice…greens, ginger, apples, etc. That wouldn’t be a well-rounded meal! Not enough variation/calories or the different nutrients your body needs throughout the day. A green smoothie loaded with fresh fruit, almond milk, seeds and greens makes an awesome breakfast, for sure! But a green juice should never be a meal replacement. Think of it as an incredible supplement to your meals, in case there aren’t enough greens in your day/on your plate! Hope that helps <3

Thank you for the love :)
